The regular meeting of the Rippey Library board will be Monday, October 28, at 5:30 in the library at 5:30.

It has been and still going to be a busy October in the Library as well as community.

The Greene County Public Health had a flu clinic here at the library  on Monday October 14.  More people came this year than last.  Hopefully everyone tries to get their shot soon.

We decided to have our library costume party on Wednesday, October 30th.  The bus gets here early that day and the kids and their families can come back in costume at 4:00 to have a hot dog supper with costume judging.  They can practice for the next night which is beggar’s night in Rippey. Adults are always welcome at these events.  Last year we had several families come, so I hope they do this year.

The committee for Rippey’s 150th anniversary continues to meet regularly. They are a fundraiser on October 31st in the community room.  Included is a soup supper with a movie.  If you want to be involved in this Rippey milestone, come, eat, and visit with those in charge.  August 1, 2020 is the date for the celebration and many volunteers will be needed to make it a great day to remember.

Rippey Fire Chief, Pete Johnson, brought the fire truck to the library on October 16.  A few kids came in from the bus and he gave a talk on fire safety.  Some of them got to try on his boots, and overalls, coat, hat and mask.  The air tank they wear inside a house was also on display.  It was a cool afternoon, but we went outside and the youngsters were able to climb in the truck to sit inside and run the lights and siren.  The kids and parents attending enjoyed the program and we thank Pete for taking time to share.  Board members, Lyle Rychnovsky  and Jean Borgeson helped with treats.

October 21st I attended a Greene County Library Association meeting in Scranton.  We meet quarterly at different libraries. October 28th there will be a science, “bubble” program at Churdan School at 9 am and Greene County School at 1pm.  I will attend the one in Churdan.  Our library belongs to the GCLA and is involved with the collaborative programs.

We have had many books and DVD’s donated and I am grateful for the generosity of the donors.  Fall and winter are good “reading” months!  Hope to see you at the library!
