We previously published two remembrances: one by Robert Huber about his experiences playing baseball at Rippey School and one by his coach, Pat Daugherty. Below is a prayer that Coach Daugherty wrote.
A Baseball Prayer
By Pat Daugherty
It’s important to me Lord; to some, it’s only a game that will be forgotten when they leave the park.
To those of us that have sacrificed countless hours of precious time that you have granted us on your earth, it becomes more important.
We don’t expect you to swing the bat or handle the gloves for us Lord, but we do ask that you make us aware of the ability that you have bestowed upon us.
Please don’t let us allow this gift to pass on unnoticed.
We ask that when the time comes when we no longer have fun displaying the skills that you bless so few of us with, that we will at least have the courtesy and courage to put our suits away.
Lord, we thank you for the courage, the strength, the ability, and speed to perform for those that are appreciative of this rare ability that you have bestowed upon us.
In your name we ask this, Amen.
