Mary reviewed the I REMEMBER RIPPEY submissions for the past month. This included the Love of Rippey, How the Town got its Name, Businesses on Main Street, and the Rippey skating rink. She distributed for review a draft cover for a booklet should the Remembrances be printed. She will be seeking an estimate from Raspberry Ridge printing.
Mary announced that Clark Fessler has sent the plates, and showed one for display purposes. They are $10.00 each.
Mary distributed draft guidelines for the parade entry registration and guidelines for parade participants. Dan would like to make some adjustments to the feet proposals. The parade route was discussed, and at the next meeting a map of the route will be provided.
Discussion followed about selection of a queen and king based upon age rather than popular vote using money. It is thought that LaVere Derry and Mary Cunningham are the oldest living community residents. Lyle Rychnovsky and Paula have purchased and will donate a top hat and Tiera for them to wear. It was determined to have them ride in an open car, rather than a carriage as it would difficult to get in and out of a carriage. It was determined not to have political parties or candidates appear in the parade.
Mary will formally request if the Isiserettes drill team can perform and ask the cost before the March meeting.
Mary announced that David and Carol John were successfully recruited to serve as point persons for collection and display of Rippey memorabilia August 1, to be housed in the Library Community Room.
A discussion about the Leap Year, February 29 evening sit down meal was held. The large community room will be used, beginning at 5:30 with appetizers, with meal at 6:00. Lyle is going to check with Tyson regarding donation of a box of pork loins to be served as the main course. Those around the table agreed to be solicited to help with the food. Entrainment such as a movie or music will be an added bonus.
Peter is ready to request Unity Point Life Flight, but 100 square feet away from the public for landing is required. Site of landing to be determined. The request will be for 12-2:00.
Mary will write for funding grants from Grow Greene County, and the Greene County Community Foundation for sesquicentennial projects. Projects yet to be determined.
Mary reported the Washington Winners 4-H club has not made a decision about running concession stand at the Ball Park for the game and fireworks. They will know by Sunday February 9.
It was determined to use Dan’s grills for making pancakes and serving them at the former school building now made into a fire house. Dan will call upon his friends to aid with the cooking of the pancakes. Will serve coffee, juice, pancakes and sausages for $5.00 beginning at 7:30 and going until 9:30 A.M.
Dan will check on the liability insurance and obtain a cost estimate. The fireworks people have their own coverage. Because of liability issues, and the needed sanctions for an adult tractor pull, it will not be held.
The children’s tractor pull will be held at the skating rink from 12:30-1:30.
Parking will be available at the Coop and at Dan’s pasture on the south side of town.
The next meeting will include a map of the parade route, and a publicity time line, along with a final schedule.
The meeting will be held March 1, 2020 at 6:30 at the Library Community Room.
