October 4, 2020

The meeting was held around the picnic table area of the community room/ library lawn. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Mayor Dan. 6 people were in attendance. Social distancing was practiced.

Mary provided a treasurer’s report of $19,033.00 in the Sesquicentennial account. The Greene County Community Foundation funds for the books, mural, and ball field refurbishing are being run thru the Friends of Rippey account.

Discussion focused on selection of the date to hold the sesquicentennial. Concern was voiced that the Covid-19 virus may not be abated by the tentatively re-scheduled June 5 date. No commitments, example fireworks, have been made regarding any future dates.

Potential discussion dates were the last Saturday in July(31st) or on Saturday August 7, dependent upon when Grand Junction may be having their event. We do not wish to be in competition with them.

Donnie will determine from his car show friend, when Grand Junction is holding their show.

While stickers and magnets were discussed, it was determined to wait until a date is secured.

The Rippey City Council is going to hold Trunk-N-Treat on October 31st from 5:30-6:30 P.M. for the Halloween event of the season. It was determined to have curb side lunches composed of pork loin sandwiches (the loin had been donated by Tyson’s for a planned meal that was postponed because of the pandemic), chips, baked beans, and a bar. This will be a free will donation, with proceeds going towards the planned sesquicentennial event. It was suggested we take orders, so we do not have food going to waste.

Mary reported the I REMEMBER RIPPEY books are here and will be sold for $10.00, and if shipped $15.00. They will be available the night of Trunk or Treat.

Mel reported he and Merle have worked on the baseball field this summer, and have almost completed the painting of the newly refurbished dug outs. It looks promising that a Des Moines league will be playing some games this summer on Sunday afternoons. Many positive comments have been received regarding the improvements to the Walt Anderson field.

Meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.

The next meeting will be held on November 22 at 6:30 P.M. in the community room.
