The 187-page book, I REMEMBER RIPPEY, is now available as a part of the 2020 Rippey Sesquicentennial.
Originally planned as a booklet, the project has morphed into 42 authors writing about experiences from their formative years in Rippey. It is available as a published book and includes some photos.
Because of the Corvid-19 Pandemic the celebration planned for 2020, was postponed until 2021, but the book may be purchased beginning October 31st.
Partially funded by the Greene County Community Foundation, books are available from the Friends of Rippey for sale at $10.00 each or if mailed at a cost of $15.00. Books will be available at the Trunk-N-Treat on Rippey Main Street, October 31 from 5:30-6:30 P.M.
For more information on how to order a book, contact Mary Weaver at 515-360-8046
The writings were submitted by every day persons, nonprofessional writers, to Phyllis McElheney Lepke, who volunteered to coordinate the project. The stories vary, from tugging on your emotional heartstrings, to laugh out loud humorous anecdotes. Phyllis and her husband Larry have donated one of the I REMEMBER RIPPEY books to the Greene County Historical Society, to both Greene County schools, all of the County Libraries, and the Greene County long-term care facilities, as well as assisted living facilities.
Categories include early Rippey history, organizations, institutions, and honoring the community’s most elderly citizens, LaVere Derry, and Mary Cunningham.
The book was printed by Raspberry Ridge Publishing, Janice Harbaugh, Editor, of Jefferson, Iowa.
