The Perry – Berkley – Rippey (PBR) Half Marathon is an Adventure Run from the town of Perry to Berkley to Rippey that supports two charities, the Cancer Research Institute and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). It takes place the first Saturday in February each year coinciding with the BRR Ride. The PBR Half Marathon is a different kind of charity run. First, it is completely FREE to participate and second, 100% of all donations and proceeds go directly to the two charities it supports. To finance and make this event happen we rely on wonderful people to volunteer, donations from local businesses and my own personal funds. You can sign up for the race or donate to either or both charities at the PBR website – https://pbrhalfmarathon.com/
The PBR Half Marathon coincides with the BBR Ride so we do ask that all runners be respectful to the bikers they’re sharing the road with. We even encourage our runners to bring a friend to bike along with them for support. This year will be our 5th annual PBR Half Marathon! I first ran the route back in 2013 when I wanted to challenge myself with a winter run and raise awareness for another charity, Meals from the Heartland. It was a hard lesson in how cold Iowa winters can be while running out in the open, but I loved it! In 2018 I decided I wanted to create my own charity half marathon. I chose the two different charities because my grandma passed away from Parkinsons in 2006 and we all, unfortunately, know someone who has been affected by cancer. My hope is the PBR Half Marathon will continue to grow and promote running year-round!
