Barb Denman, 77, passed away Saturday February 28, 2009 at her home. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 5th at Iles Funeral Homes, Dunn’s Chapel. Burial followed at the Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Iowa.
Barbara Jean Denman was born July 29, 1931, the daughter of Helen Hunt and Ivan Burk. She graduated at the age of 1116 from Rippey High School, where she played basketball, and also graduated from AIB College. On June 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert Denman, until his death in 1991. They lived in Des Moines and moved to Urbandale in the mid 1960’s. Barb worked as an office manager for Western Electric for 15 years and Iowa Computer Resources (ICR), a subsidiary of Iowa Power, until her retirement in the mid 1990’s. Barb was a member of a local theater group.
She loved her family, nature, knowledge, traveling, reading, playing golf and all things lapidary. She was a great poker player. “It’s a big, wide, wonderful world and I love it.” was her favorite saying.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert’ and her brother, Ivan Burk Jr. She is survived by her children Linda Leveque (Peter) of Oregon, Steven Burk Denman (Marchelle) of Texas, Douglas Robert Denman, of Waukee, Rebecca Helen Casey (Philip) of Texas and Mark Denman (Kimberly Poppe) of Waukee; grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Alexander Leveque, Adam Burk Denman, Spencer Douglas Denman, Derek Steven Denman, (Sara), Alex Leeann Denman, Shane Robert Denman, and Cameron Phillip Casey; and two sisters Marilyn Hagemeyer and Janice Squires.
