Betty Jane Young, daughter of Samuel Isaac Beaman and Hazel Marie Crumley Beaman, was born January 17, 1919 in Perry Iowa and died June 21, 2006 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 4 days.

Betty graduated from Rippey High School in 1936 and then attended AIB in Des Moines. She worked for the State of Iowa for a time.

Betty was united in marriage with Paul R. Young on August 29, 1940 in Princeton, Missouri. They were blessed with three children: Mary Ann, Dennis and Linda. They made their home on a farm southeast of Rippey until the early 1960’s. They then moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles south of Rippey. Paul died January 25, 1978 and Betty moved into town to make her home in 1980.

Betty was a Hawkeye and Cubs fan, but enjoyed all sports. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and play cards. Betty was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and her Church Circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, and the KYNB Club. She served as a trustee for the Rippey Library for 14 years and also the Senior Citizen Board for over 30 years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Blyth Beaman. She is survived by her son Dennis Young and his wife Pat of Jamaica, Iowa; daughters: Mary Ann Miller and her husband Paul of Perry, Iowa and Linda Young of Brookfield, Illinois; 5 grandchildren: Carol Miller of West Des Moines; Sue Miller-Perez and husband Carlos of Brookfield, Illinois; Robert Young of Des Moines, Iowa; Jennifer Young of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and David Young of St. Paul, Minnesota; Betty is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Veronica Pineda; Nicholas, Cara, and Samuel Perez; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Young and Velma Bandy; other relatives and friends.
