Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 3, in Rippey Cemetery for Charles Robert “Jack” McElheney, 87, longtime Rippey area farmer. The Rev. Deb Parkison of the Rippey United Methodist Church officiated.
Jack McElheney, son of Harold “Bud” McElheney and Helen Marie McElheney, was born July 9, 1919, in Perry. He died Oct. 29, 2006 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry.
Jack started school in Madrid and later moved to Rippey, graduating from Rippey High School in 1937. He attended Iowa State College following graduation. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Jack married Jean McKelvey and moved to a farm southwest of Rippey where they were still living. They were parents of three daughters: Phyllis, and twins Marilyn and Karilyn. They grain farmed and the family maintained a registered Holstein dairy herd for 30 years. They also raised Angus cattle for several years before retiring.
Jack was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and Elmo Masonic Lodge in Rippey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold “Sonny” McElheney.
Survivors include his wife Jean of Rippey; daughters Phyllis Lepke (Larry) of Story City, Marilyn Quinn (Mike) of Wilson, WY, and Karilyn Brodell (John) of Jackson, WY; and two grandsons, Matthew Lepke of Bloomington, IN, and Cooper Quinn, a student at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia.
