Funeral services were held, Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. in the Rippey United Methodist Church for Eloise Overman, a native of Rippey, Iowa. Words of comfort were spoken by Pastor Clare DeBoef and Pastor Deb Parkison, pastors of the church.
Honorary casket bearers were John Yingling, Esther Grow, Eleanor Whiton, Jean McElheney, Errol Wilson, and Marvin Terrill. Casket bearers were Randall Overman, Michael Overman, Dale Neese, Myron Rinker, James Odin and Rick Liebich.
Pastor Deb Parkison and Jean Borgeson sang, “Remember Now Thy Creator” and the church choir sang, “In The Garden” accompanied by Marjorie Vannatta.
The ushers were Ben Vannatta and LaVere Derry. Interment was in the Rippey Cemetery.
Eloise Overman, youngest of seven daughters of Richard Templeton and Birdie Wells Templeton, was born March 31, 1921 in Rippey, Iowa, and died April 7, 2010 at her home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 89.
Eloise graduated from Rippey High School in 1938 and then attended Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines where she had been awarded a basketball scholarship. E
Eloise married LeRoy “Shorty” Overman on June 21, 1940 in Rippey. While LeRoy was in the Military, Eloise was a beautician. In 1945 LeRoy began barbering in Rippey and n 1946 Eloise started her own hair styling business. They made their home in Rippey where they raised their two children, Barbara and Randall. They both had long careers in their respective businesses: LeRoy over 60 years and Eloise 59 years, of which 53 having being in Rippey. LeRoy died March 3, 2007 and in the summer Eloise moved to the new independent living apartments at the Rowley Home. Eloise was a hard working, faithful member of the Rippey United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and accompanied, also. She was a vital part of the U. M. W., now known as Rippey Ladies Aid. Eloise sang on many occasions, and had enjoyed singing duets with Pink Grow many, many years. In high school she played the violin and was self-taught on the piano. Eloise always enjoyed playing the piano, and in fact, had played at chapel the day before she died. She was a voracious reader, loved quilting, and watching her stories on television. Throughout her life she held various offices in the Rebekah Lodge. Eloise was a 60 member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she had been county and district president as well as pianist for the 8th District for many years. She was honored to serve as pianist for the state convention.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents; husband LeRoy, March 3, 2007 and son-in-law John Yingling, June 19, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Colleen Stickle, Bonita Wernli, Mae Summy, Bernice Stonehocker, Mary Thornburgh Derry, and an infant sister. Eloise is survived by and lovingly remembered by her daughter Barbara Yingling of Milwaukee, WI; her son Randall Overman of Perry, IA; grandson Michael Overman, his wife Sara and their children Noah, Connor, and Samantha of Des Moines, IA; granddaughters Denise Doering, her husband David and their children Ryan and Sean, all of Green Bay, WI; and Holly Imbus, her husband Donald and their children Noelle, Bradley, and Jackson of Ave Maria, FL; other relatives and many, many, friends.
Hastings Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of the services.
