The Friends of Rippey met for a brief meeting on Sunday, October 20 at 6:30 P.M. at the Library Community Room. Those present were Nancy Hanaman, Mel Murken, Dan Brubaker and Mary Weaver.
Mel provided information about the activities being completed at the ball park. He is cleaning the infield of weeds, (a constant battle), trying to refurbish the bases as they cracked on the top, and rusted on the post having been left outside. He has painted them, and worked to remove the rust. He is working to ready the grandstand to be painted in the spring by scraping the peeling paint. He has completed scraping and painting the shed housing the baseball equipment. He will be continuing his efforts to promote use of the field with junior high Greene County ball, or even town pickup team.
Mel has identified 24 players, and umpires, and an announcer for the ball game in August 1, 2020.
Nancy continues to secure photos of Rippey at various times in the history of the town. These will be made into post cards that may be used for writing invitations to potential attendees, or selling them at the Sesquicentennial on August 1, 2020. Dan had a photo of the Rippey Main Street taken from the west, looking to the east. The mode of transportation was only horses as seen in the photo. He is working to obtain all the Rippey photos in the Larry Vodenik collection.
Mary and Nancy, along with Carol Norgren John, are sending notices to the Rippey Alumni, announcing the date of August 1, as the day of celebration, and asking for donations.
Following discussion a motion was made by Nancy, seconded by Dan and approved by all present to transfer $5000 from the Friends of Rippey to be used for the Sesquicentennial.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 P.M.
