Mary Weaver opened the meeting. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read. Paula Ryknovsky presented the treasurer’s report:
Donations from Halloween meal: $529.79 with an additional donation of $300 from Dina and Chuck Hastings. These funds will be placed in the “Fireworks” fund for the Rippey Daze event in July 2023. The balance is $25,648.10. Donations for memorials are deposited at Peoples Bank for LaVere Derry and Phil Roberts. Other funds are at Rolling Hills Bank.
The cost of a globe for the light near the Library was located at a cost of $130.00. Dan reported that Alliant Energy is willing to move the pole and suggested other option to consider. Solar power is possible and wiring the light with a timer. Donnie Carpenter will talk about this with the City Council on Nov. 7. Mary Weaver has offered to write a grant for the city for painting in and around the Library. Greg Jacobs with the Rippey Lions Club presented a Grow Greene County grant proposal for a basketball court, cement slab, marking on the court, baskets, and lights to compliment the pickleball courts, horseshoes, cornhole recreational options,. Greg brought diagrams to illustrate this proposal. This would provide a location for people of all ages with the possibility of youth tournaments and other activities. The Friends of Rippey will support this proposal.
Cara McCoy shared comments on the “Trunk or Treat” event on October 30.
Cara and Greg provided activities for children and youth. Approximately 60-70 participants with 50 people served at the free will offering meal with beef brisket for sandwiches cooked by Kevin Hick, cheesy potatoes from Mary Weaver, dessert provided by the Rippey Public Library Board.
Paula Ryknovsky will be point person for the December 3rd Christmas celebration meal. The meal will be pancakes with Dan Brubaker and his grill, fruit cups, juice, and coffee. Paula shared that a crew to set up tables would be needed on Dec. 2 with volunteers to help serve on Saturday, Dec.3rd.A motion was passed authorizing Paula to purchase of a large coffee maker for $60.00-$100.00.
Marc Monthei is coordinating the Easter Bunny event on April 18.
Dale Thompson reported that the Rippey Baseball Commission had met recently and would be working the 2023 schedule. There was discussion regarding the Baseball Commission considering a beer permit and they could use their 501 C3 status. Mary or Dan will can assist the Commission to pursue this.
The Rippey Fire Department is looking for more volunteer firefighters. Donnie has some contacts. Cara McCoy noted that the Rippey Public Library now has a “hotspot” to be checked out for a week for Internet access.
