Gerald LaVerne Brown died on November 13, 2008 at Perry, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at the Carris Family Funeral Home on Monday November 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Words of comfort were spoken by Pastor Deb Parkinson. The pianist was Marjorie “Midge” Vannatta, and the vocalist was Charles Schott, singing “On Eagles Wings” and “Come with Me into the Fields” and Pastor Deb Parkinson, singing “Go Rest High on that Mountain”.
Honorary Casket Bearers were: Marlene Radabaugh, Dan Brubaker, Steve Rieff, Jack Jordon, Bob Flynn, and Tod Contner. Casket Bearers were: Ryan Brown, Jim Brown, Zach Brown-Behrends, Ben Brown, Josh Brown, and Jared Brown.
Gerald Brown was born on June 12, 1928 at Angus, Iowa to George William Brown Sr. and Edna Mae (Simpson) Brown. He graduated from Rippey High School in 1946. He married Doris Grow on September 25, 1949 at the Rippey United Methodist Church. Gerald farmed his whole life; after he retired from farming he began working as a crop adjuster in 1979 until 2006. While working as a crop adjuster he continued assisting his sons with the farm operations. He also did custom work for years with corn shellers, combines, and trucks.
Gerald was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and the Rippey Elmo Masonic Lodge #435.He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, George St. and Edna Brown, 2 brothers, George and Gordon, and a great grandson, Alex.
Survivors include his wife Doris Brown of Rippey, Iowa, sons Ron Brown(Kathy) of Rippey, Iowa, Rick Brown (Sue) of Rippey, grandchildren, Angela Brown-Behrends (Kevin) of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan Brown of Jefferson, Iowa, Ben Brown (Mandy) of Des Moines, Iowa, Callie Sublete of Ames, Iowa, Jim Brown (Jenny) of Sioux  City, Iowa, and Josh Brown (Katie) of O’Fallon, Missouri, 10 great grandchildren 5 nieces, a nephew and many friends.
The final resting place was the Rippey Cemetery.
