Joyce Roberts age 79, of Rippey died on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Visitation was held Monday, May 19, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Perry Bible Church or Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and may be left at the Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held on May 14, 2014 in the Perry Bible Church, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 10:00 a. m. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Charles Compton. Music was provided by pianist, Midge Vannatta, and vocalist, David Menz, who sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “I Can Only Imagine.” The congregational hymn was “To God be the Glory.”
Honorary casket bearers were, John Muir, Ken Muir and Bobby Muir. Casket bearers were Dan Magerkurth, Grant Magerkurth, Ben Magerkurth, Matt Roberts, David Lee and John Roberts.
Burial was in the Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Iowa.
Edwena Joyce Roberts was born on April 10, 1935 at Osceola, IA to Howard and Mary (Simmerman) Kirby. She graduated from Truro High School in 1953 and later from Creston Community College and Drake University. She married Warren Joe Roberts on July 7, 1962 at Truro, IA. Joyce worked for the Dawson Schools and then Perry Elementary School as an Elementary Teacher.
Joyce was a member of the Perry Bible Church, Red Hat Society, Rippey Lions Club, Beta Sigma Phi and was a Resident Advocate at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home. She enjoyed attending Bible Studies and church activities, meeting with retired school teachers, bird-watching, gardening, traveling, history and trees. She most enjoyed keeping in touch with the many friends she made through the years.
Joyce was preceded in death by husband, Warren Joe Roberts in 2007 and her parents, Howard and Mary Kirby.
Survivors include her two daughters, Debra and her husband Rod Magerkurth from Geneseo, IL, Joricia “Joey” and her husband Don Schneider of Lebanon, OH, a son, Scott and his wife Julie Roberts of Panora, IA, grandchildren, Dan, Grant (Melinda) and Ben Magerkurth, Lara Schneider, Matthew Roberts and Michael and Nicole Kirtley, and two sisters, Janis (Jim) Dorman, Casa Grande, AZ, and Susie (Mike) Cronin, Riverside, IA.
