With those introductory words, the Board invites Greene County citizens to the third “Meet Your Legislator” event at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 7, at the Welcome Center, located in the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
Senator Jerry Behn, and Representative Phil Thompson will be present to greet their constituents, and listen to their hopes, as well as concerns as the Legislative Session goes into its final weeks. The 1st Funnel day for both houses passed on February 21. This means proposed legislation must have passed out of committee for their respective houses. The 100th day of session, thus adjournment date for this year’s session will be April 21st.
The Revenue Estimating Council will be meeting in early March, to provide budget information for a current and realistic dollar numbers for the House and Senate, as well as Governor Reynolds.
The Education appropriation bill proposed by the Senate is at odds with the recommendation from the Governor and that suggested by the House. It puts all the schools in Iowa in difficulty as they are working to complete the local schools budgets.
This and other topics are certain to be issues posed to Greene County’s legislative representatives. Your participation is important, as some nearby counties are unable to arrange for dialogue with their legislators. While participants in the “meet your legislator” may not always agree, the communication does not become disagreeable.
