Memorial services for Myron “MIke” Linn, were held at 11:00 a. m Saturday, April 16, 2011 in the Rippey United Methodist Church, Rippey, Iowa. Pastor Paul Burrow of the church, officiated.
Honorary Bearers were Jason Whelchel, Amanda Jewett, Scott Linn, Sara Gallardos, John Linn, Leslie Linn, Jeremy Whelchel, Jerrod Whelchel, Jennifer Whitney, Jill Witte, Shane Jewett, and Ian Jewett.
Marjorie Vannatta, organist, accompanied Brenda Roberts as she sang, “You are Mine” and the recorded music was “You Don’t Need To Understand”.
The congregation sang, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Amazing Grace”.
The ushers were LaVere Derry and Dale Neese.
Myron “Mike” Linn, son of Floyd Linn and Mary Cross Linn, was born December 4, 1926 near Ralston in Carroll County, Iowa and died December 17, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Cochise, Arizona at the age of 84 years and 13 days.
Mike moved to the Rippey area when he was twelve-years-old, and graduated from Rippey High School in 1945. Mike was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving in World War II where he was a gunner on the aircraft carrier USS Salerno Bay. On September 22, 1948, he was united in marriage with Kathleen Andrews. To this union, three children were born: Dan, Peggy and Rebecca.
Mike and Kathleen lived at and farmed in the Rippey area for sixty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and Wild West and Indian history. He was a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jason Whelchel. Mike is survived by his wife Kathleen of Rippey; son Dr. Dan Linn and his wife Val of Newark, Delaware; daughters Peggy Porretta and her husband Byron of Cochise, Arizona and Rebecca Linn of Dana, Iowa; eleven grandchildren: Scott Linn; Sara Gallardos and her husband Raymond; John Linn; Leslie Linn; Jeremy Whelchel and his wife Janelle; Jarrod Whelchel; Jennifer Whitney; Jill Witte and her husband Ryan; Shane Jewett and his wife Cori; Ian Jewett, and Amanda Jewett; 17 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mike is also survived by his sisters: Helen Tuhn and Margery Shearer, both of Stockton, California and Barbara Rogers of Redfield, Iowa; his brothers: Paul Linn and his wife Lorraine of Evington, Virginia and Jim Linn and his wife Shirley of Grand Junction, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
