Rippey Baseball Quilt

A handmade quilt honoring the rich history of Rippey baseball will be raffled off as part of the fundraising efforts for the Rippey Sesquicentennial +1 celebration.

The 60”x80” quilt, created by Fran Norgren Teagarden, features baseball motifs and an appliqued border that recognizes Rippey’s baseball heritage. The raffle tickets for the quilt are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The quilt will be on display during the July 31 event, and may be previewed at the Rippey Library beginning July 18.

Fran grew up with her two sisters and brother on the south edge of Rippey and has many fond memories of Rippey baseball, attending many Rippey Demons games as a youth. She was married to Jack Teagarden from Grand Junction. He was a star baseball catcher for the East Greene Hawks and ultimately for the Boone Toreadors State Championship Baseball Team. After graduation Jack also played for the Rippey Demons.

Fran has been a generous supporter of Rippey baseball, purchasing the new home plate, bases, and pitching rubber in Jack’s honor for the recently refurbished Walt Anderson baseball field. In addition, Fran, an East Greene graduate, will be throwing out the first pitch for the East Greene Hawks on the day of the reunion baseball game. Lester Zanottti, a Rippey graduate who attended the University of Iowa on a baseball scholarship, will be throwing out the first Rippey Bulldogs pitch.
