Rippey Farm Festival 1913 Festival a Huge Success. Jefferson Bee October 8, 1913
The Rippey farm festival last Thursday and Friday was a Grand success, not only as to exhibits, but in attendance.
Rippey, said by all to be the biggest little city in this part of Iowa, entertained more people by far than at any previous festival, or other big occasion, ever had there. The weather for both days was perfect, the going good, and everybody went.
On both days Jefferson contributed thirty or forty auto loads, while Perry, on the south, sent droves of cars, and countless numbers by train.
A registry booth was conducted, where all were supposed to leave their names. Late Thursday evening free drawing was had, and various articles and things, given free by Rippey business men, were dispensed to parties who were registered—and lucky.
The following prizes came to Jefferson: E. E. Cain, box of cigars. C. G. Cockerill, free shoeing of a horse, A. J. Oblinger, one year’s subscription to the Rippey Booster. V. H. Lovejoy, buggy whip. (Incidentally we need this whip in our business. Messrs. Burke & Morse, who furnish the same, are requested to attach a five foot lash at the slim end, and a twenty pound chunk of lead at the butt!)
