The Kinkead-Martin Legion Post #583, Rippey Iowa, continued their Memorial Day tradition, performing Sunday at the Pleasant Hill service and on Monday, they attended services at the Fairview Church north of Perry and performed their ceremony at the cemetery across the road from the church.  After a snack at the church, they continued to the Bowers/Angus Cemetery for their annual appearance there.  They were joined by Addie Burkett, who played Taps at the conclusion of the rest of the cemeteries including Old Rippey and Rippey.  Addie. Who lives in Winterset, continues the family tradition, following in her mother’s (Wendy Roberts Burkett) footsteps, playing Taps at the three Washington Township cemeteries.

The Rippey UMC Church served about 100 after the services at Rippey.  The weather was nice at the old cemeteries, but the wind picked up by the time the Rippey services started.  Mary Weaver, Sharon Ulrich and Pastor Cat performed as best they could and inviting the children forward to lead the Pledge of Allegiance was a really nice touch.

It was a busy, but always nice weekend in Rippey
