The Rippey sesquicentennial meeting was called to order on October 6 at 6:36 P.M. by Dan Brubaker. The meeting was attended by 16 persons.
There were no minutes from the September 8th meeting.
The treasurer’s report September 8 was $4,746. Donations this past month came from Dale and Nancy Hanaman, Daniel Peters Estate, Julianne McAllister, Rippey Ladies Aid, Bev and LaVere Derry, and Doug Anrig (a visitor passing through Rippey from California). The total deposits were $425.00. The treasury now stands at $5,181.00.
The first order of business was selection of souvenir items. It was determined to order 50 grey cotton baseball caps, with white embroidery, stating Rippey sesquicentennial, 1870-2020. Mary will place the order with Clark Fessler. The selling price will be $10.00. Mary has ordered 75 light blue colored t shirts in a variety of sizes that will be selling for $10.00, with a $5.00 fee for mailing.
Dan Brubaker attended the Grand Junction Lions Club meeting last month. They are planning a car show on August 1st. from 9-11:00 A.M. The Rippey Car show will now begin at 1:30 and run thru 3:00 P.M. There will be reciprocity in advertising of both the car shows. Because the car show will now be in the afternoon, the parade will originate at the site of the fire station (former school building location), travel east to Sparky’s, south for two blocks, east by past senior citizen housing, exit west to the County shed and return to the school. The parade will begin at 10:00.
Dan will be getting in touch with Chris Cake’s regarding potential pancake breakfast and entertainment for “BREAKFAST WITH THE MAYOR”, which will begin at 8:30.
Discussion about re-printing of old pictures of Rippey was discussed. Janice Harbaugh will print (depending upon volume) at 40 cents per card. Persons were encouraged to find high quality black and white glossy prints and share with Nancy Hanaman prior to the next meeting. Dan will check with Larry Vodenik of Perry to see what kind of post cards he has from Rippey.
Dale Thompson suggested posting small signs along Main Street showing the locations of former businesses. Perhaps several different dates such as 1910, 1930, and 1960 will be used to show the businesses present during that time period.
The minimum cost of fireworks is $2500, for 5-6 minutes. Dan has communicated with the company regarding insurance and location. The lighting will occur west of the grandstand in Roger Norgren’s field. Dan has checked this with Roger. It is now estimated that $10,000 will be needed for the fireworks and will last about 17 minutes.
Articles tabled were the bounce houses, carnival, and logo/mural on the Rolling Hills Bank.
Kat requested donations of food for the upcoming soup supper fund raiser to be held from 5-9:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 31st at the Community Room. The planned menu is soup, rolls, and dessert bars. The movie “Hocus Pocus” will be shown at 7:15. There will be a free will donation. Arrangements will be made for “to go” containers as harvest will most likely be happening.
It was determined to have a breakfast on December 7 from 7-10:00, serving egg casseroles, biscuits and gravy. Kat will work to secure items to provide a “drawing” reminiscent of those done previously in the town square back in the 50-60’s.
Mary will determine if she can arrange for Santa to visit during the breakfast.
The next meeting will be held on November 3 at 6:30 P.M.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35 P.M.
