Funeral services were held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:00 p. m. for Velma Jean (Carpenter) Bandy, age 92, who died on March 9, 2013 at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and may be left at the Carris Funeral Home.
Words of comfort were given by Pastor Charles Compton of the Perry Bible Church. Recorded music played, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
Honorary casket bearers were Hillary Carlson, Nina Goodell, Tessa Sradley, Katelyn Spradley, and John Spradley. Casket Bearers were Robert Tuhn, Joe Tuhn, Dan Tuhn, Everett Beebe, Brett Beebe and Brad Beebe. Interment was at the Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Iowa.
Velma Jean Bandy was born on August 24, 1920 at Perry, IA to Daniel Edward and Edith (Johnson) Carpenter. She attended country school Northeast of Perry until her family moved to the Washington Township School district. She was united in marriage to Robert Edwin Young on June 14, 1939, until his death in 1962. Velma was later united in marriage to Rupert Bandy on June 6th 1964, until his death in 2003. Velma worked for Dr. Diddy, Dallas County Hospital in the kitchen, and Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in housekeeping from 1980 until she retired in 1987.
Velma enjoyed feeding and watching birds, raising flowers, camping, fishing, babysitting great great grandchildren, trying new recipes and taking family pictures. She was member of the Women of the Moose Lodge when it was active.
Velma was preceded in death by parents, Daniel and Edith Carpenter spouses, Robert Edwin Young and Rupert William Bandy and 2 sisters, Lois Payton, and Louise Colbert.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Carris, Perry, IA, and Marilyn Jean (Iran) Spradley, Paso Robles, CA, 4 grandchildren, LuAnn (Robert) Tuhn, Roberta “Bert” (Everett) Beebe, Iran (Cheryl) Spradley, and Tim (Judy) Spradley, 9 great grandchildren, Joe Tuhn, Dan (Amber) Tuhn, Hillary (Adam) Carlson, Brett (April) Beebe, Brad (Megan) Beebe, Nina (Mike) Goodell, Tessa Spradley, Katelyn Spradley, and John Spradley, 10 great great grandchildren, Elie, Emie and Maddux Tuhn, Aidan and Addison Carlson, Robert Beebe, William and Brooklyn Beebe, and Noah, Emma and Cooper Goodell.
