William Jacob “Bill” Wisecup, son of Dewey Wisecup and Valda Nutt Wisecup, was born June 10, 1927 near Luther in Boone County, Iowa and died February 14, 2010 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab, Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 4 days. Bill’s funeral was held at 10:30 am Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Hastings Funeral Home, Jefferson, Iowa.
Words of comfort were by Mr. Robert Rogers, Minister, at the Bayard Church of Christ, Bayard, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Chester Vaughan, Junior Wisecup, Ken Muir, Gary Stone, Dean Nutt and Dale Finestead. Bill’s casket bearers were Jerry Stone, Roger Stone, Dick Stone, Jack Stone, Donald Stone and Gary Schmidt. The pianist was Mr. Carson Griffith and the congregation sang, In The Garden, Beyond The Sunset and One Day At A Time. The family greeted friends at a lunch at Hastings Funeral Home Lounge before going to the Orange Township Cemetery at Coon Rapids, Iowa.
Bill had entered the Greene County Hospital in mid December with pneumonia and flu and later transferred to the nursing home for recovery. He was united in marriage with Maybelle Stone on June 11, 1950 at the Bayard Church of Christ. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage before her death August 26, 2009. Bill and Maybelle had lived in the Cooper and Rippey areas all of their married lives where Bill was engaged in farming. Bill entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and received an honorable discharge in 1946 as Seaman 1st Class. After returning, he finished his schooling at Cooper High School graduating with the class of 1947. Bill was a member of Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post 583 in Rippey for over 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, raising a nice garden each year. He loved caring for his big yard, taking care of his flower beds, feeding the birds and caring for his devoted cat “Snoopy”.
In addition to his dear wife, Maybelle, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Robertson and Janet Wisecup. Bill is survived by six siblings, sisters Olive (Gene) Harris of Cottonwood, AZ.; Mary Ruth (Harold) Jagerson of Madrid, IA; Jeanne (Ted) Brazelton of Phoenix, AZ.; brothers Bob Wisecup of Eagle Grove, IA.; Albert (Nancy) Wisecup of LA.; Jerry (Sandy) Wisecup of Des Moines, IA; sisters in law Velma Wolf of Scranton, IA.; Vera Stone of Bayard, IA.; Lois Bannister of Grimes, IA.;and brother in law Alfred (JoAnn) Stone of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
