At the Memorial Day services, May 28, 2018, Dennis Ulrich presented LaVere Derry with his 60-year certificate of membership in Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post #583, Rippey, Iowa.
LaVere was inducted into the service in February of 1952. After completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he left for Camp Killmer, N. J. where he left for Germany to serve for 18 months during the Korean War. He was discharged from Camp Sheridan, Illinois in July 1954.
