Rippey RAGBRAI L Signature Rock

Share

On July 6, Greene County Materials, formerly owned by John Hamilton, donated a 9240-pound boulder to the Friends of Rippey. The Friends of Rippey will be asking RAGBRAI riders to place their signature on the rock when they are at the Rippey MEETING PLACE for lunch on July 25th.

Tim Jansen, the current owner of Greene County Materials willingly donated the 4.2-ton boulder for the Signature Rock. RAGBRAI’s official count is 29,000 registered riders, but because Rippey has been identified as a MEETING PLACE, R.V.’s, sag wagons, and shuttle drivers will also be meeting their riders and having lunch in Rippey. An estimate of 40,000 of our closest friends will be having lunch in town between 10 A.M.-2:00 P.M. on July 25th.

The photos show the rock at the gravel pit, moved to Rippey on a flatbed trailer, and then rolled off, and up righted by Mayor Dan Brubaker, Gary Weaver, and Scott Weaver.

The Signature Rock will be power washed, and then painted white and ready for signatures on July 25th.

The Friends of Rippey very much appreciate the donation of the boulder, and the work done by Dan, Gary, and Scott.
