The Rippey Pickleball Court is now officially opened for players from the extended Rippey community.
Several people from Jefferson, Perry, Grand Junction, Des Moines, and Rippey gathered on Sunday, October 1st to observe the activities surrounding the opening.
Mary Weaver, Friends of Rippey leader, thanked those in attendance for coming. She recognized the recently installed memorial benches on the court exterior given by Roger and Collen Thompson Norgren as a memorial for their parents, Hugo and Lucille Norgren, and Darwin and Helen Thompson.
Karen Shannon, chair of the Greene County Community Foundation was introduced by Mary. She congratulated the Rippey Community for the over $50,000 worth of projects that have been funded by GCCF. Funds have been made available to improve and retain the vibrancy of Rippey. This includes financial support to improve the baseball field, restrooms at the ballpark, the library, fire department, and former Rippey school building memorial.
Brenda Roberts, Rippey Library Board member announced the library will be purchasing pickleball paddles and balls for personal checkout. The funds for these items were made available from profits generated during RAGBRAI coming through Rippey.
Jan Bojikes of Jefferson gave an overview of the game, followed by several individuals providing a demonstration of the game. Several beginner players were on site to learn more about serving, and scoring.
The Friends of Rippey and the Rippey Community express appreciation for the afternoon demonstration and attendance.
