Jean’s Jottings

Blake, Linda, Sierra, Jayden, and Sophia Hampton of Chandler, AZ spent part of their school break staying in the home of Michael, Jill and Seth Borgeson, arriving Friday evening, October 4 and leaving early Wednesday morning, October 9, 2024.

Sierra, Jayden, and Sophia each experienced riding in the combine with Uncle Michael, driving the jeep with Uncle Alan riding shotgun,  around and around the corn field, walking along the river below the farm picking up shells, lunch with grandma at To-Jo’s, a visit to Deals Orchard and other adventures.

Sunday, the family gathered in the shed at Grandma Jean’s, for pizza. Those attending were Uncle Michael and Aunt Jill, Uncle Robert and Aunt Mel, Uncle Alan and Aunt Sarah, and the oldest cousins Jace, Kane and Kale.

Monday afternoon, the Hamptons and Jean visited Jean’s sister and husband, Dean and Elayne Bice in Johnston. Tuesday evening was spent at Alan and Sarah’s for a final goodbye.

`             The weather cooperated and they were able to see all their uncles, aunts and cousins, as well as Grandma Jean and our special neighbor, Virgene Morse.

I think I enjoyed the walk along the river the most, especially at my age.  It’s like another world down there and the river has changed so much over the 60 years of living here.  I usually view it from the cliff behind my house, but when you are on the sand bars looking up at the river bank, I really wonder how much rain it will take to recover from this dry spell!  Linda took a picture of the erosion control fence. It’s ready for rain!

In the meantime, I need to figure out how to package and send all those shells the kids worked so hard to clean. It was a fun few days with plenty of laughter and new experiences for the “city” cousins to remember!
