Meanwhile, at the Rippey United Methodist Church, the crew served a big crowd of hungry riders. The food was prepared earlier and was ready to serve the early riders. The serving was by members of the church, the Baseball Commission and other volunteers, coordinated by Kevin and Mary Hick. Mary said it was a great day! I understand there were no pies left, so it must have been a successful day!
My only job these days is to go early enough to visit with the early birds and take a few pictures. I was visiting with a couple from Mount Ayr. She was driving the sag car for her husband, age 81. One of the volunteers asked them where they were from, and she asked them if they knew so and so. They did and they asked her where she was from. When she said Union-Whitton, I asked her if she knew Dick and Barb Nail. She lit up and said she sure did and was a friend with their daughter, Sandy. I told her Sandy was babysat with our four kids! We had a nice visit about Sandy and she had someone take a picture of us to send to her. It’s a small world, sometimes. The crowd was growing and I was in the way, so I came home and took a nap. In my world, that’s better than riding a bike for this 81 year old!
