The Rippey Lions Club enjoyed a delicious meal prepared and served by Phyllis Bardole and Maralynn Rinker.  Two trees were planted by Lions Club members at the Rippey Ballpark, one In memory of Keith Devilbiss and the other for the 100th anniversary of the Lions Club organization. There will be plaques for the tress at a later date. A picture and a article about the recent donation to the Rippey Public Library was featured in the May Iowa Lions Club magazine.  Summer activities will include a free community picnic for everyone in the area on Saturday, July 7 at Osborn Park. Other summer activities were discussed. The Lions Club will provide the food, drinks and desserts.

Following the business meeting, Rick Liebich provided the program by sharing the video “Riding the Rails” telling the story of 250,000 teenagers who left home and rode the rails during the Great Depression. The video included memories of the some who had ridden the rails as teenagers and young adults and difficult circumstances they faced as they struggled to survive and they searched for job and food.

The next meeting will be at Cindy and Mark Devilbiss’s home at 7 p.m., June 7. Guests are always welcome. Members will bring meat to grill and a dish to share.  Nancy Hanaman, reporting
