Former Rippey resident, Lynn Wilson, visited with Virgene Morse Saturday afternoon. Lynn has fond memories working for Dale and his father, Harvey Morse as a youth. As he was remembering other farmers he worked for, he and Virgene both had memories of those same people around Angus. Virgene lived in that area as a child and rode the bus to school in Perry with some of those boys who became the farmers who needed extra help walking beans, baling hay, etc.
Lynn and my husband, Ralph, were 1959 Rippey graduates who were in the first kindergarten class Maxine Johnson taught when she came from Cooper to Rippey for the 1946-1947 school year. I have always enjoyed listening to the memories of the Rippey folks and enjoyed listening to them visit about the Angus area. Despite the age difference, both shared the memory of Simpson’s grocery store, owned by Joe Simpson. (neither one could remember his name, however, so here it is, you two!)
After leaving us, Lynn headed to Jamaica to visit with his Aunt Janet Correy. When I called Janet she mentioned, again, how much she has appreciated Lynn’s visits these many years. She and Larry lived in Rippey when they were first married. I became acquainted with her when we Rippey “gals” were invited to join the group at ToJo’s. Lots of laughter shared at that back table over the years!
Thanks to Lynn, for taking the time from driving home from wintering in Florida with his wife, Barb, who stayed in Des Moines with her sister. The Saturday afternoon was made brighter for all of us! Lynn also was able to visit with his classmate, John Bardole, on Saturday morning.
