Sunday afternoon October 1st at 4:00 P.M. the Rippey pickleball court will be officially opened.
Roger and Coleen Thompson Norgren will be recognized and thanked for the two benches adjacent to the court. The benches were donated to honor their parents, Hugo and Lucille Norgren, and Darwin and Helen Thompson.
Karen Shannon, chair of the Greene County Community Foundation, will be present and will be acknowledged for the many projects funded by GCCF in Rippey.
The game is a combination of tennis, bad mitten, and table tennis. It has its own language of kitchen, dink, falafel, lob, overhead smash, paddles, etc. An overview of the game of pickleball will be given by Jan Bojikes of Jefferson. She will be assisted in a demonstration game by others from the community.
Local contractors, Jontz painting of Woodward, Juavier Construction, and Stokley Lumber of Perry have all contributed to this project. The City of Rippey approved the refurbishing of the former concrete Rippey skating rink, and the grant for partial funding along with the Friends of Rippey allowed this project to be completed.
